Owosso’s first recreational marijuana retailer ready to start selling

According to MLive, OWOSSO, MI -- The city’s first recreational marijuana retailer has big plans for its grand opening this week and for expanding all around Michigan in the weeks to come. Lume Cannabis Company said in a news release that it will launch Owosso’s first adult-use marijuana retail location at 116 N. Washington St. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, complete with a waiting area stocked with free doughnuts and cookies, a shuttle bus and a formal ribbon-cutting.

“We are thrilled to launch adult-use sales at our Owosso store starting Tuesday, Feb. 25,” President and Chief Operating Officer Doug Hellyar said in a news release. “At Lume, our top priority is to provide high-quality cannabis products that are safe for patients and recreational consumers across Michigan. Lume products have received incredibly positive responses from our patients in Owosso, and we are excited to provide our superior products to recreational users in mid-Michigan and beyond.”

The company said Owosso will be Lume’s third store to offer adult-use sales, joining shops in Evart and Honor. It also operates two medical provisioning centers in Kalamazoo and Adrian and is planning additional stores in Big Rapids, Petoskey, Negaunee, Walled Lake and Mackinaw City this year.

Retail stores sell flowers, pre-rolls, edibles, and concentrate, according to the company’s website.

Lume’s Owosso store, which opened for medical marijuana sales in January, will be open from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday. The announcement of the opening says customers will be allowed to wait inside the next-door Century 21 building at 114 N. Washington, St., where free doughnuts and cookies from Bea’s Bakery and refreshments from Foster Coffee will be available.

Gift bags will be given to the first 100 adult-use customers, and a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony will begin at 11 a.m., the company said. Free shuttle service will be provided throughout the day from the Comstock Street parking lot, south of Roma’s restaurant.

Lume promotes itself as being unlike other marijuana brands because the company builds its our own cultivation facilities, packages its own product, and sells it only from its own stores.
