More than 40 states could have some form of legal cannabis by the end of 2020. Even highly conservative states like South Dakota and Montana have set the stage for voters to legalize marijuana for adults.
Marijuana advocates around the U.S. are promoting their ballot measures and collecting signatures to meet deadlines to be listed on voters’ ballots this fall, Politico reported.
“We’re cautiously optimistic that we can win more marijuana reform ballot initiatives on one Election Day than on any previous Election Day,” said the deputy director of the Marijuana Policy Project (MPP), who cited growing support for legalization among liberals and conservatives.
Multiple legislative efforts to legalize cannabis came up short last year, including in New Jersey and New York
“If we can pass medical marijuana in Utah, we can pass it anywhere,” the MPP stated.
