According to Sentinel And Enterprise, Local Roots, an adult-use marijuana dispensary near the Lunenburg border at the former Godrey’s Grille & Pizzeria, announced its plans to open at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Located at 371 Lunenburg St., the shop received its final license from the state’s Cannabis Control Commission and was issued a commence operations notice last week.

“There is a great sense of accomplishment and we are really grateful to the City of Fitchburg for being such an important part of getting here,” said co-owner Dean Iandoli.

The opening comes amid the coronavirus outbreak and the closure of several business and local schools, which forced Local Roots to cancel its planned grand opening celebration.

“We were really excited for the opening to be a celebration of all of the hard work put in by a lot of people that has gone into this up until now, so sure there is some disappointment,” said Iandoli. “But there are folks out there who are really hurting because of this and there is a much bigger picture here. We know this will pass and we can celebrate at that time.”

There will be some uncertainty moving forward, Iandoli said, and the shop will be mindful of any directive from state or city officials, including the CCC.

In the interest of keeping both staff and customers safe, Iandoli said the shop will be implementing a sanitation protocol. He said there is sanitizer, soap and hot water available at the store, and all surfaces will be cleaned frequently.

There will be a restriction to five customers in the story at any time and a 6-foot distance will be maintained between customers if a line begins to form.
