CBD Is Moving The Cannabis Industry Forward

CBD is moving the cannabis industry forward how? Let's get into some real details to answer it.

Only because it won’t make you high doesn’t seem sufficient enough to prove it right?

Firstly, what is CBD?

Cannabidiol (cann-a-bi-dol) widely known as CBD and Tetrahydrocannabinol widely known as THC are two major cannabinoids of at least 113 found in the cannabis plant, THC is the principle psychoactive constituent of cannabis. CBD doesn’t make you “high”.

Now, let’s start with addressing the elephant in the room, CBD being used for medicinal purposes.

If it seems like you're seeing CBD products everywhere, that's because you are. Thanks to the passage of the US Farm Bill in 2018, which legalized industrial hemp, and the legalization of medical and recreational cannabis at the state level, CBD products have exploded in availability and popularity over the last year.

A fine number of Potential patients and consumers might worry to try cannabis because they’re worried about getting “high” but with CBD products, that risk gets noticeably reduced.

Studies suggest CBD has many medical benefits which include:

  • Chronic Pain

  • Inflammation and arthritis

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Nausea or appetite loss

  • Multiple sclerosis

  • Crohn’s disease

  • Epilepsy and seizures

The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has also approved the first prescription CBD drug, Epidiolex, for its efficacy in reducing epilepsy seizures.

Quick Fact: As per BDS Analytics, Over 20 countries have established medical cannabis markets and more are following suit.

Cannabis is still highly restricted federally in the United States yet, 33 states do allow medical cannabis and/or the purchase of CBD products. Great news came with the 2018 Farm Bill which allows industrial hemp, making hemp-derived CBD legal.

Let’s get to the other side of CBD which is not only limited to medical purposes.

In a survey conducted on 4000 Americans, consumers are inclined towards wellness CBD products too for sports recovery, skincare, and beauty. Consumers are also exploring recreational consumption of CBD like infused beverages, edibles, tinctures, oil and topical.

This kind of wide landscape of consumers is only going to help get more momentum to the Cannabis industry and again proving the point, CBD is moving the cannabis industry forward.

Some research suggests that CBD may affect the “endocannabinoid system,” a series of receptors found throughout the body that seem to interact with various compounds in cannabis, including CBD, and some of which are related to feelings of anxiety and pain, or that help regulate the body’s sleep-wake cycles.

Quick Fact: CBD is also extracted from the hemp plant, which has less than 0.3% THC.

According to the Brightfield Group, a market research firm specializing in cannabis expects the CBD market from hemp alone to grow to $22 billion by 2022, up from $327 million in 2017.

Yes! it shows no signs of slowing down: Sales of CBD products are expected to exceed $5 billion this year, a 706% increase over 2018, according to the Brightfield Group, a cannabis-focused research firm.

Bonus - 22 percent of people who took CBD for one of the health problems we asked about said it helped them replace prescription or OTC drugs, with more than a third of them saying they used it to replace opioids. And some researchers across the U.S. are now studying whether CBD (alone or in combination with THC) could be a tool in the fight against the ongoing opioid crisis.
